My grandfather, John Marriot Sproston [b. 1883 d. 1942] fell out with his sisters on the death of his mother ca 1898 -9, and joined the army, being at the Relief of Ladysmith in 1899.

As a result of this falling out, he forbade any of his own children from contacting their aunts. I'd be interested to know if this rings a bell with any Sprostons out there.

Re: Any Sprostons?

I used to work with someone who was married to a Sproston here in Cambridge. Such an unusual name, they must be related to you!
