Spring Road Railway Station Disued Booking Office

Re: Spring Road Railway Station Disused Booking Office

I take it that the building is no longer there. I am unsure as to the owner but it would either have been Network Rail or the Train Operating Company. It had not been a booking office for a long time and was used latterly for storage.

I have not heard anything about it going to a preserved railway. The other possibility is that it was removed either because it had become unsafe or else the railway viewed it that an empty building was or had become a target for vandalism. Perhaps it had been set on fire - some railway buildings have unfortunately met this end.

I know that some signal boxes once they have closed have sometimes been demolished within anything from hours later or within a week again for the same reason that empty buildings attract vandalism and Network Rail cannot afford to be responsible for delays to services caused by a signal box set on fire.

If I hear anything on the preservation grapevine, I will post back here.

I understand that all the booking office fittings, partition and window, etc. were all still inside and intact and so it would have made a nice little project for a preserved railway to take on.

My eldest son may know something about this..he's a manager for Network Rail..I'll let you know ASP.

It would be a pity if it has not been preserved, I suspect that it was not that old,

Re: Spring Road Railway Station Disused Booking Office

Just a update on the missing building.
Stations are not part of my sons job but he knows someone who is and hopefully will have more news tomorrow.

I could pop down and take some shots as I'm close to the area.

So far I've only got the other side with the disused car park (hope it gets demolished)

I'm sure a supermarket and / or old age home is planned to be built near Shaftmoor Lane.

Does anyone know what has happened to the Green Disused Booking office the was near to the pavement I do have a photo of this but finding it is another thing

You should have used tags and descriptions when you uploaded it (and sets). Makes it easier to find photos in the future, when you need to refer back to them.

I took some pics of Spring Road this morning - uploading to Flickr now.

That building used to be here

The building has only gone with in the last few months

I have had a look on-line and I am wondering if it was demolished when the Denso/Lucas building was demolished. It seems a supermarket and retirement/care village is being built on the Denso/Lucas site.

Another update on the missing booking office...my son said that Network Rail had nothing to do directly with any improvements to Spring Rd..it was the responsibilty of the train operating company London Midland..he had no luck in trying to contact the people involved in its removal so I decided to make contact with the company.
Today I had a reply to my request for any information and the sad news is that it was demolished 9 months ago.
I had relatives who lived down Spring Rd and I can well remember the old booking office from 60 years ago.

Many thanks I am surprised none of the preservation groups appear to have made their interest known about the former booking office or perhaps they may have ? the sad thing is that it has to all intense and perpasses its gorn and not been preserved (would have looked good in my back garden) and so another piece of local transport history goes west
