Snakes and Ladders

Di.Poppitt

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN
I used to play the game by myself for hours on dark winter evenings. Sometimes I used all of the sets of counters, but usually I used two. I haven't seen the game for years. Our children didn't have one.

On the back of the board was the game of Ludo, but I can't recall how it was played. But I bet somebody will...... :D

:D Di we still have all those old games and our Children and now the Grandchildren have all been taught to play them. The new version of Lodo is called Frustration or Trouble depending on what firm made it, the dice in these games are inside a clear plastic dome which is pressed to make the dice bounce and turn around or over . With the old Lodo each player choose a colour and has four counters (Dibs) at home in the same coloured square, you then take turns in throwing the dice.
The aim was to go right around all the white spaces with out getting landed on by another colour (opponent).
On reaching the bottom your ladder you had to climb it.
You do this with all four counters and the first one to get them all up the ladder won.
We always throw a 6 for every counter to start, however you can have as many of your counters going around the board as you like as long as they all start when a 6 is thrown.
If you throw a 6 you have another turn.
If you manage to get two of your counters on white space at the same time you can block others from passing, as long as you still have another counter on the to move when it is your throw.

Well Di I hope I have made that as clear as MUD for you

Chris :)

:D  I just knew I would miss a bit...
If by any chance another player does land on you , your counter has to go back to the begining (in to it's square) and start again by throwing a 6.

Chris :)

ROOK,BIRD,KING,CASTLE ???

Thanks, I know how to play ludo and snakes now.

Could you just explain chess ?

:D Dave if you mean that game with the King, Queen, Bishops, Knights, Rooks and Pawns (King, Queen, Bishops, Horses, Castles and Nobbly bits :) ). Then I will send you a PM    . As I am pretty good at the game :!:

I think I'm only interested in the nobbly bits you mention, I hav'nt got time for proper chess, [or the b----- patience] but thanks all the same, nice to know you care.

:D Dave I hought the reference to knobbly bits...
I think I'm only interested in the nobbly bits you mention
might grab your attention as I was assuming you had spelt chess wrong, right from the start...

2 types Chess

:) Hiyah Christine Pom gal, I think your posting is safe cuz its daft enough to stay on anyway  I think Dave B would like my 2nd tier of Chess format better, as follows

There are 2 types myself & M8,s play, First is standard "En Passant" style
Second is no standards "On Pissant" a la mode, Now this is Chess with a twist or two because for every peice captured you have to drink a half or a small shot, don,t think I ever won but didn,t care by that time anyway  John

MONOPOLY

What about Monopoly, I think playing this game for hours on end when I was a kid gave me the enthusiasm to tackle the property market as an adult, I mean, who would want to live on the old Kent Road when you could get to Park Lane if you tried.

Deep blue Kandor

I play Chess..I love the game in fact..
They do a great game on Yahoo...
I'm on there a lot..

I heard that Spatsky cracked up due to losing his World Title & took up Snooker instead,
Shame though cuz he was rubbish at that & they changed his name to Inov the Red :D

Be assured Snakes and Ladders is still popular.....How do I know this? Last week I received a postcard from my daughter who was visiting Cebu, a palm trees, silver sand and blue sea type of resort in the Phillipines with her boyfriend.
They played Snakes and Ladders on the beach for hours and she beat him
most of the time. I spoke to her yesterday about the Snakes and Ladders
bit and she said it was very popular in Japan with adults as well as kids!

I loved playing as a kid and our board was very dramatic with very large
curley snakes which looked quite dangerous if I remember correctly. We had a compendium of games and had a lot of fun playing the games in the winter
and on rainy days.

There are variations of Snakes and Ladder on the BBC CbeeBies website, which keep my 4 y.o. grandson quite for hours. One involves the Koala Brothers (don't know who they are? - be ashamed... be very ashamed); their plane is the equivalent of a ladder and a kite a snake - there's nothing new.
