Hi,
I'm currently researching my mother's side of the family with the surname Smitten. Most of the records I have place the family around the Solihull/Knowle/Filey areas.
If anyone has any links with this name, I'd really appreciate any information.
Many thanks

Hi,
Thanks for the welcome.
I have a reasonable amount of information on this side, and as it's a reasonably uncommon name except in this area, wondered if anyone had it in their trees.

Here's what I have to track from (knowingly deceased members only)

My grandfather was Eric Charles Smitten, born 1924 and his siblings were:
Raymond Smitten b.1922
Lily Smitten b.1920
Vera M Smitten b.1921 - I know nothing about Vera though

Their parent were:
James Smitten b. c.1888 Solihull
& Beatrice While b. c.1894

James had a brother, William b.c.1887 & a sister,Mary Ann b. c.1892
of which I know nothing more of.

Their parents were:
Charles Smitten b. c.1858
& Ellen ? b. c.1861 d. 1919

Unfortunately that's all I really have. If anyone has any Smittens in their tree from the general Solihull area it would be great to hear from you.

charles smitten married ellen parkes 1878 apr-jun solihull 6d 681

Thanks Christine,
Details updated. I must admit I find it hard to get some of these details, I'm registered with Ancestry.co.uk and get to see the census' but that's about it. Where did you find these items? Or am I just not looking hard enough?

I think I really need a run down south again sometime to look through the records office.

the details i gave were from the ancestry bmd list

an unusual name so very easy to find

chris

Many thanks, more details updated.
I've trawled through all the census results now and listed all members (including soundex variants) to try and piece it all together.
Some of the writing/interpretations are terrible though!

Have a Smitten in our family, don't know too much about them but believe they were from Dudley area so doubt they are connected.

Hi, first time posting on this board but I also have Smittens from Solihull in my family tree. Wondered if anyone had any info on John and Ann Smitten (nee Allen of Yardley)? The daughter I am interested in is Eliza who 'married' a George Smith.
Does this ring any bells for anyone?
Thank you
JBG

should have said they used to run The Samson And Lion pub on Yardley Green Road during the 50 or 60's.
