Smith - Smith marriage 1851

Hi, according to family search my husbands 2 x great grandmother Maria Smith [that was her maiden name] married William Smith on 8 November 1851 at St Martins. I wonder if anyone has any more information especially her fathers name. Many thanks Jan

You may have to think about buying a copy of the marriage certificate. I did look on the 1841 census but there are too many Maria Smith's to know which is the correct one.

The marriage certificate will give you address at time of marriage, occupation and both father's names and occupations.

Hi dipseydiva, This might put a spanner in the works, the marriage you quoted was for a widower marryng a widow. Her father's name was Thomas Probert, shoemaker. The address is Oxford Street for both.
William was a coal dealer, his father a labourer.
This is from a BMSGH disk for St. Martin's.

Hi Rosie, thanks for that info. I don't think that it can be the marriage I am looking for. My Maria had an illegitimate son in 1846 so I know her maiden name was Smith. In 1861 she was living with a William Smith so I hoped this was their marriage but I guess I will need to keep digging. Many thanks again, Jan
