Hi im new to this im trying to find out about my grandad his name was Ernest Samuel Smith he married Mary Kathleen Blake they lived at 9 denmark street. Sadly he died in 1953 at just 29yrs old he had a son and daughter (my mom) patricia Mary Smith, he was born in cannock and mothers maiden name was street, i know he had brothers and sisters and im trying to find their names and if they are still with us if anyone can help me i would be very grateful, i would love to be able to get a picture of him for my mom as she doesnt know what he looks like she was only 1yr when he died. I know he died in dudley rd hospital of bowel cancer, and also at some point before lost his arm,not sure how..

Hi there, I think I've found your Ernest Samuel Smith and Mary K Smith, living with a Sidney C Blake and a Mary H Blake at 316 Bloomsbury Street in 1950.
Marriages Mar 1948
Ernest S Smith married Mary K Blake Birmingham 9c 1170
Births Mar 1924
Ernest S Smith (mothers maiden name) Street Cannock 6b 861
Marriages Dec 1917
John W Smith married Beatrice M Street Cannock 6b 906
Marriages Jun 1923
Sydney C Blake married Mary H Blakemore Aston 6d 955
Births Mar 1927
Mary K Blake (mothers maiden name) Blakemore Birmingham N. 6d 614
Having looked at Free BMD there are quite a few births with the surname Smith and mothers maiden name Street,born in Cannock.
Emily M 1918, Arthur J 1920, William H 1921, Edward T 1923, Ethel L 1925, Edith N 1927, Elsie I 1928 and Irene D 1930.
Of course, all these births may not be to the same couple!
It may be wise to obtain Ernest's birth cert and/or marriage cert initially,which will have his parent's names on etc.

thankyou so much for finding all this information for me how do i find out about the brothers and sisters of ernest samuel smith, iv read out the list of names to my mom and she does recognise 1 of the names how would i find if elsie i had any children. Also the address you gave me at bloomsbury street do you know if there was a burt and nell living at the address aswell. Thankyou so much, at the end of all this i would hope to find someone with a photo of my grandad ernest for my mom she has never seen a picture of him as he died when she was just 1 year old.

Hi Steward,ideally you would need to get a copy of your grandad's birth and marriage certificates. This would then verify his parentage!
All I did was look for a birth in Cannock on Free BMD which matched Ernest Samuel's age. This gave me a mother's maiden name,so I then looked for a marriage and other births with the same criteria as Ernest's.
There was no Bert or Nell living at that address in 1950,but if you have surnames,I will have a look on the electoral rolls for you.
In 1955,by the way,Mary Kathleen was living on her own at 9 Denmark Street.

The on line electoral rolls only go as far as 1955,but if she married before then and you have her husband's name,I could have a look for you then and also look for any possible births for you.

Hi had a look on the bmd and could only find 1 elsie i smith that married in birmingham in 1944 that would of made her just 16yrs, she married someone called moran i dont no if thats right, i no she lived in aston birmingham and ive been given a road name of park lane, im sorry thats not very good. Thankyou for your reply elsies maiden name was smith and the more i look the more confused i get i have just found a marriage certificate of elsie and she married someone called reid in 1953 in birmingham.its difficult because im not getting any infirmation off my mom,she dsoesnt no any thing,thankyou very much.

Hi iv found a marriage between an elsie and a reid they married in birmingham in 1953, i think iv come to an end now i dont know if its the right marriage i dont have any more information other than she lived in aston in the 50s. Any help would be great thankyou for all you have done.

Hi, I did have a look for Lomond/Reid births,but I couldn't see any.
To contact those who may be living relatives,have a look to see if any of them got married etc, then phone books maybe or an ad in a local paper covering the Cannock area,where they originated from? Maybe Genes Reunited?
