Sir Harry's - Edgbaston

Lived over the road back in '87.My old house has been demolished, and by the looks of things Sir Harry's is following suit.
It was Irish run back in the 80s,and was a nice pub in a not so great area back then.I saw it open about 2 months ago, just about all the customers were from the ethnic minorities, and the atmosphere certainly smelled of cannabis.:D

I believe there was an older building before this, probally demolished to build this, and the cheesy 60s shopping centre.Wonder what it was like all those years ago?

we live near it
it was pretty good when it was an O'Neills back in the 80's/early 90's - me and my husband had a nice anniversary lunch there once

you are so right about it smelling of cannabis now - not that I go there, but I know that area, by the Sir. Harry's shops, has people who supply

hi all
when a small boy lived in ragland road of the pershore road and my dad (Harry Kitchener Stacey 1915-1998) always joked that he had a pub and road named after him, happy days.

hi guys
speaking of the sir harrys pub i drove passed there on saturday morning it,s still standing
but heavy boarding up all around , i remember joe ann whom ran iot in the eighties whom was the licence,e
at the time she lost her job with the brewery and then they changed to oneils
but that went down the pan ; left right and centre through druggies and dealers
i seen and old friend of mine whom is still in the game,he used to run the bear on stratford rd
then he went to the fox hollies afew years back thenthey sold that
and then he has gone to work fr marston brewerys and runs a big pub in newbry
and it as three chefs, big kitchen and the food is doing brillient
beers good as well ; it apparently works out that my friend tom , wnt to do a couple of releifes in and around
newbury ,and it works out that joe ann was there at this pub in newbury
she was the licence,e there but sadly joe as fell down yet again she as been dismissed for a mr meana again
but my friend tom told me that the sir harry was set on fire by a drug dealers gang for
getting these druggies out
its an hard game to be in now in fact it as been for the last duration
these druggies are ruining our pubs left right and centre yet alone the rising cost of running
these pubs and rising prices of our good english ale
these drugguies are every where what a society we are living in ,
i went to the kings heath area las night and went to the hare and hounds
and witnessed it first hand there last night to me it as taken over where the cannon pub
which was notorious for the carrying onss for those whom do not know it it was in balsall heath
it took the police years to get that closed down before they finnaly did thank god
the high street of kings heath was an appalling site all the big stores have these big heavvy grills on the out side as welll as inside i felt un easy walking along last night i got in my car and drove back to worc,
i have a young brother whom lives in reeves rd kings heath whom is now disabled
i feel sorry for him living there
my friend tom said he had some trouble with a drug dealer at the bear a couple of years ago
he got the dealer busted and apparently the dealer told the police my friends house [ tom ] is loaded with alot of coke so they raided is house with twenty police officiers ;and they had to wait in his house in selly park
half an hour whilst they bring a sniffer dog from coventry to go through is house the police opoligised to him and is family and said we know you are clean but we have to check out these reports
they all had a cup of coffee and bickys laughin and joking
tom told me that the sir harrys was gutted by fire by the dealer and cannot see it ever opening again
best wishes Astonian ;;
