Below is a photo from 1919 of the tailors shop of Joe Putsman. He had been there about 10 years, and succeeded another tailor on the site. But by 1920 the shop was Isaac & Samuel Hassall, and possibly this was taken shortly before the changeover
It was, as can be seen at no 54. This is marked in red on the c1889 map, though Joe only occupied part of no 54, the remainder, including the buildings behind, being the brassfounders of John Jones & Co.

Next to the third hanging lamp there’s the word ‘STOUT’ but backwards. Was this once a beer retailer ? Or maybe it was advertising something else - e.g Stout shoes. Viv.
