Shaftesbury Hotel Station Street

This hotel was a temperance hotel located next to the Crown in Station Street. It had a coffee house and dining rooms in 1893. It was sold in 1824 after the death of owner Samuel Carey. The building that exists today on the site is Shaftesbury House - see Streets below.

Sadly it was the scene of a murder of a Belgium woman in 1918. The murderer was convicted and was executed by hanging at Winson Green Prison.
