Sgt Edward Gedge RAF

Ruud

Brummie babby
I am doing research on 43 airmen that lie burried near my hometown the Netherlands.
One of them is Sergeant Edward Gedge form Erdington, Birmingham.
Sgt Gedge was a bomb aimer on Lancaster JB609 PH-f from No. 12 Sqn RAF.
The airplane crashed on 20 February 1944 in a field near the village of Elspeet.
A monument still remembers that spot.
I am chairman of a local Dutch veterans association.
Every year in November we hold a ceremony at the cemetary to honour these brave men.
I am looking for prosible relatives of sgt Gedge to let them know his name is not forgotten.

From CWGC he was the son of Edward and Dora Gedge.

Edward, the son, was from Sussex, registered Steyning 1914. He appears to have had only one sibling, a brother George Augustus b1908, who married the wonderfully named Enese Rox Slaughter. It appears though that they didn't have any children. So unfortunately the closest relatives would probably be any children/ grand children of his cousins.

Can't see what happens to Edward, the son's wife, Dorothy nee Bailey, after his death but again there doesn't appear to be any children

Thank you for this information. Could it be possible there is/was a roll of honour from a school he visited?

Interesting, Cambridge Junior Local .
Is that the proper name of the school?
I can only find St.Mary's Junior School which is a girls school.

I am puzzled by the date but think Cambridge Junior Local might refer to what used to be the "Cambridge Local" examination board. Cambridge Board still existed when I started teaching in 1975 but I don't know much about it. As Shoreham College (takes boys from 4 to 16 now) is fee paying I wonder if he had to pass an exam to enter the school? Perhaps the school itself might explain.

Already a lot of information, thank you.
My goal is to find a picture of Sgt Gedge.
Of the 43 airmen now 24 pictures are found. At a school's Roll of Honour, a local newspaper sometimes adds a picture in their announcements.
I guess that would be a place to search.

I would contact the school. With such an extensive roll of honour I would imagine they would be interested in your info.

I am a distant relative. I have not been able to find an image of Edward, or of his aircraft. He is commemorated at the International Bomber Command Centre south of Lincoln.
