Self pay?

There is some information on these Self Checkout machines work at www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self_checkout

Looking through the write up on this site it at least expains why the Automated Checkouts sometime stop, it is either still learning or more likely it don't trust you and thinks you have had two tins of baked beans insted of one!

Yes folks, progress happens. Remember the days when the largest supermarket was Wrensons when you were served items off the shelf by an assistant, now we happily load our trolleys around miles of isles. Remember when if we needed cash from the bank it involved standing in a queue with a pay cash cheque, the majority of us pay by debit/credit cards now and self service cash machines are everywhere. Thank God says I but I am sure there were those that mourned this progress.
I was in a huge Tescos yesterday that had 50 checkouts, only 6 were self pay. Being reminded of this thread I observed the ages of folk going down the self pay tills and it came as no suprise to see the majority were in the 20-40 age range.Remeber you can only use this method if you have "about 10 items".I am by no means a spring chicken being in my late 50s but I very happily joined them. Perhaps the younger generation are happier than most here in embracing progress. As I said in my earlier post, the punters always have a choice of using the traditional checkouts if they so wish.
