Seamless Tubes

Heartland

master brummie
The manufacture of seamless tubes was one of Birmingham's key industries at one time. The advent of this trade coincided with the supply of these tubes to the cycle, motor cycle and other industries.

For example the New Credenda Tube Co Ltd was formed in 1896 to carry on the business of making weldless steel tubes at Crendends Tube Works, Bridge Street, Smethwick established in 1888. These works had a frontage to the Birmingham Canal and made tubes for the cycle, marine and other boiler tubes, shafting, heating apparatus, condensers , super heaters, boring and mining apparatus, axles and gun carriages.

The Credenda at it was known was formerly at Ledsam Street, in Birmingham where patent cold drawn seamless tubes for locomotives, marine and other boilers were made

The Bridge Street premises was offered for sale in September 1906 where the plant included tube rolling mills and 16 steam engines
