in the 60s the schooli went too had activity days, where we was put into groups and sent out with a clip board to co around the shops and factories gathering info on the business and writing it down on the clip board. also if possible get a sample of there goods and services. we collected some good items and some strange items includind a railway lamp made by a company in mount st nechells.
one week we was all sent by coach to telford for a day to research the businesses there and factories what a great time we had.
did any other schools do similar surveys.

As an ex teacher I think most did if they were sited near enough to suitable areas. These days it requires a vast amount of paperwork so that type of activity tends to be more restricted.
