Although I have found reference in the relevant census, and the business employed a lot of people, I haven't found any other details about this maternal ancestor or the business. Does anyone know of any records about the business?

Can find no reference to him in directories as a bicycle manufacturer, but Graces guide (https://www.gracesguide.co.uk/Samuel_Stanton) does list him as having a receiving order against him in 1888, stating that he was a former bicycle manufacturer , now a machinist. There are entries in the directories in the 1880s as a machinist at 107 aston road

Samuel from 107 Aston Road in Bankruptcy Court in 1883, and applying for discharges in 1889 and 1892.

There is a description in 1888 of a Samuel Stanton, residing in Tower Road, Aston, formerly of Aston Road, formerly bicycle manufacturer, journeyman machinist.
