hi folks...cant see a thread for this so here goes...yesterday my sister bought me 4 lovely coasters depicting the john sainsburys company...when i looked at them i thought well just how old is this firm...just googled it and it was established in london in 1869....i would imagine that some of you know this already but i have just learnt something new....anyhow ive scanned the coasters and here they are...

Lyn that is very interesting for me because my elderly uncle Mom's brother told me his Dad my grandfather came to West Bromwich to become a manager for Salisbury's. He was a trained journeyman butcher so I assume he ran the butchers department. He came from Chester to work in West Brom. His marriage certificate in 1913 states his occupation as Butcher's manager. In the 1911 census he is a Shop Manager/ Butcher lodging at Herbert Street West Brom. He died before I was born but I know he had several butchers shops one in West Brom in Handsworth and one in Stetchford. I don't know the time line for these shops though. His name was James (Jim) Caldecott. Thanks for the pictures. xx
 
hi wend..glad you find the pics of interest...only put them on because i could not recall seeing a thread about john sainsburys...that and the fact that i didnt realise they had been going for so long....
