Hi there,

I am trying to find out about my great grandfather Arthur William Childs b. 1891 in Nuneaton and he served in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment between about 1906-1918.

I know that he was a reginald sergeant major and served in the machine gun corps. We also have a photo of him on horseback in Afghanistan during WW1. He also served in the area around the Khyber Pass and in Constantinople.

Unfortunately, his medals are no longer in the family so i don't have his service number but my nan does seem to think he was in the 5th battalion.

Can any one help with my research. Where to go for info, how to find his service number etc...

thanks in advance,

Kathryn

Kathryn,
Here is a link to the Warwicks and where they served,it might help.
Also a visit to St.Johns house, warwick, might be helpful.
I have put a pic in my photo's,taken in Basra,Iraq in 1917...the man seated was in the Warwicks the one standing seems to have the badge of The Machine Gun Corps in his cap.
