Rose/Stretton.

telford girl

proper brummie kid
Hello
I'm looking for information on the Rose family who lived in Birmingham. Lewis Rose was born 1840 at Repton in Derbyshire. His daughter Florence Mary is my Great Grandmother. Lewis died 1904 in Birmingham. He made Rubber Stamps, for post office etc. I believe he worked from home.
Florence had a brother Lewis, (b) 1869. but i don't know anything about him. Their mother died and Lewis (1840) remarried to a Sarah Rose. Who's father was named Aaron. Lewis and Sarah had three more children, Ernest, Charles and William. Florence Mary married George Stretton, their children were Lillian, Frederick,( my Grandfather ) Thomas and James. Frederick (m) Edith Foden.:fat:

From directories:

1890 Lewis Rose, shopkeeper , Miller St
1892 Lewis Rose, shopkeeper , 29 Miller St
1895-1900 Lewis Rose, India rubber stamp maker 29 Miller St
1903 No one listed at 29 miller St, & Lewis Rose not listed

The address in 1890 is probably the same as in 1892 and after, but no number is given.

Hello sistersue61
I'm looking mainly for more info about Ernest, Charles and William. I have cencus records up until 1911, but know nothing after that. apart from Charles Edwin Rose died 1930 in Frinton on sea, but on his will his address was in Perry Barr.

Hi there Telford Girl. I do know of a Rose family who had both an Ernie and a Charlie Rose. They lived in Ladywood in the 1940's & 50's. I can put you in touch with them if it is of any help. A descendant of them is trying hard to build a family tree also.

Rgds,

Michael
