GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN R.I.P.
What mask will you wear today?
Maybe the one, that takes the sorrow away?
You know! The one that has a hiding smile.
It masks the lines of strife and toil.
It hides the grief from shattered dreams
Living a life beyond your means.
What mask will you wear today?
It’s the mask of smiles to disguise your pain
Like an iridescent rainbow after thundery rain
Leave your mask; don’t put it on today
Be your inner self and throw it away
Ask your self why did I need a mask
To carryout this disagreeable task
Wear your own face, as it should be
And your own true self let them see
Be always true to your own true self
So as from today I will always be myself
(c) Rod Birch 2003

The mask 2
What mask do I wear this day
Not a fixture that’s here to stay
Torment I hide with a smile
When you stay with me for awhile
But when you leave all on my own
This smiling face I disown
This smiling mask I throw in the draw
With the rest I have many more
These many masks hide my inner self
Like a silent picture on the shelf
Silent a staring into an empty room
Just like my heart heavy with gloom
I would like to wear the mask with a smile
And maybe leave it on for awhile
Perhaps it could become a part of me
A smiling face for every one to see
John

Rod and Johns mask

Wearing the mask is the easiest - it can protect you, even though there maybe pain or sadness underneath....its often easier to cope with masking it, than dealing with it openly - until you find someone that 'understands' - then you can ditch your mask for a while

There are very few people who dont wear a mask at some point. Its sad isnt it. Its for our own protection and theirs.

Nice poem

Yes the mask can protect, easier to live a lie than face ones own monsters? When you look in the mirror you can see that your really happy and not face up to the nightmare within? A mask works two ways!!

very perceptive

yes, it can be 'risky' to leave our masks off...
it helps when people really know the real us, and still show they like/love us...
then we can keep risking...
we may get knocked back, but after a time of rest and recovery we can ask for the strength to try again...
Being real is so important in this plastic age.

A poem written with true perception John.

Those who know and love us can spot the mask, I guess we let it slip........

Mask 2

Your mask is no longer there John your true self is revealed with thoughts and feelings through your own words!

It is completely normal to want to wear a mask in the work-a -day world; when we feel our problems are none of other peoples business, but not among friends!

This subject is fascinating........... Perhaps we all wear masks every minute of the day if we are in company, perhaps the only time we walk maskless is when we are totally alone, or in sleep?
