Ready & Son (John Ready & Sons)
Thanks for the info Rod. I was interested to see that the company name had been changed from its original title in Wolverhampton, i.e. Ready & Son, with Ready being my great great grandfather Thomas (died 1866) and John being the Son. He must of taken the opportunity of moving to Aston to revise the name, albeit in 1890 Gerald, the eldest of his 4 sons, was only 14. 3 of the sons later joined the business with the 1901 census showing both Gerald and Clifford as being Brassfoundry Managers and Stanley as Brassfounders Clerk. John had died in 1897 and when Clifford also died in 1901 his death cert shows him as a Brassfounders Clerk. The business appears to have closed briefly in 1901 only to be revived later that year by Stanley (then aged only 18). Gerald died in 1907 (age 31) and his death cert shows him as a brassfounders traveller. The company continued in operation until 1921 or 1922 when Stanley and his family emigrated to Canada. I presume the business was then closed for good.
I should be interested if anyone could validate or add to the above by reference to trade directories etc.
Thanks
David Hill
