Hi all,
I am wondering if anybody can provide me with some information on the Vaughton Arms Hote 137 Leopold st Birmingham. According to the 1911 Census Albert Moore was the manage with his wife Margaret and two children Margaret 18 & Alexander 16. I would be very greatful for any information on this matter.

Kind regards

The pub is marked in red on the map.
The directories list the Vaughton Arms as being no 136. Albert is listed as being the landlord in the 1912 and 1913 directories (which are usually taken as referring to the year before the publication date). It is a different landlord in the 1908 and 1921 editions. The pub seems to have been built between 1858 and 1862 and disappears after the 1932 directory, at first being missed out in 1933 and the becoming occupied by Sydney Collins , food specialist (whatever that means)

Mike, another question in the 1911 Cesus also there is a Henry Littlewood who is the Publican of a hotel in 77 Glover Street Birmingham. Is there any information on this hotel and the Littlewoods. George

The pub at 77 Glover St was the Vulcan. It disappeared sometime between 1921 and 1932. The 1912 and 1913 directories list john Welsh as landlord, and the 1908 one as Thomas Hood. It first appears sometime between the 1858 and 1862 directories, when nthe landlady was Ann Hoskins. It’s position is in red on the c 1890 map.
