I know the 1939 "census" https://forum.birminghamhistory.co.uk/showthread.php?t=31246 kicked off the process for the initial ID number & Ration Card distribution which became the NHS number. But as for later people I don't know and would doubt if it would be publicly available (there was enough struggle to get access to the 1939 listings) but I do hope someone knows better...
thanks aidan..what i am trying to find out is if a certain person who was born in 1945 was issued with a ration book and also a NHS number...if someone has any ideas of what doors i should be knocking on i would be most grateful...
Lyn i have just found my National health card it has my N.H. S.number on it and the DOB is 30/06/43 but i don,t think this is an original as it was issued in West Brom.Dek
Infants up to one year were included in their mother's green book.
Children aged one year to five years - mothers of these children sometimes had 'extras', a few extra vegetables or a cracked egg, slipped into their shopping baskets by kindly shopkeepers.
Children aged over 5 years had their own books of tokens.
So I think it unlikely they had their own ration card but think they would have had an ID/NHS number
thanks dek..and thanks aidan..now all i have to do is find out if there is anyway of confirming if the said person was issued with either or or both ID CARD AND NHS NUMBER...
