Hi all,

Can anyone help please with my tracing of my father in laws grandfather?

He was Peter William George Rathbone b1936-2003 his father was William George Rathbone 1910c then nothing. These were both born in Wolverhampton. According to Peter's birth certificate these facts are correct. If no one can help i will have to send for yet another certificate. (my piggy bank is becoming light) lol :P

Names i am researching, Hemmings, Willis, Rathbone,Terry, Perry, Gough,Duggins

Hi Lindz.

I take it that it is William George Rathbone you are looking for. Can you tell us why you think he was born in West Brom?

Haven't been able to find a birth for him in West Brom between 1905-1915 but there are these 3.

Births Sep 1907 Rathbone William George Warwick 6d692
Births Mar 1908 )Rathbone William George Camberwell 1d905

Don't know if you have already seen these, but thought I would post them just in case.

there is a marriage of a william george f rathbone in wolstanton staffs in 1903 to either clara elizabeth faulkner or mary jane rigby. perhaps this is the one you want but to prove it i think you still need the certificate as you say unless anyone has researched this family already.

Thank you both for your swift replies.

I have William George Rathbone off the birth certificate of my father in law Peter Rathbone. I know through a relative that William married a Louisa Harper but he could have married more than once of course.

Oh knickers i have just looked at my tree, He isnt William George, he is William Edward!!! sorry guys !!

It is William Edward Rathbone's father i am after. Many apologies.

William E Rathbone birth registered Dec 1910 Birmingham ref. 6d 35

William Rathbone(no middle name) married Louisa Harper June quarter 1935
Woverhampton 6b 1547
I am afraid to get any further back with William you will need to buy the
certificate but if you get his age and fathers name and occupation it may mean that from then you can use online
records to further your family tree.

Oh dear, a senior moment, never mind we all have them :)

Alberta has found him for you, so alls well that ends well.

Barrie.

Thanks Alberta, for the information and patience with me! Yes Barrie, senior moments do tend to hit a tad more lately lol.

Hi Lindz
My mother was a Rathbone, but I don't think linked to your line. I'll check the facts I have and let you know if I spot anything.
I am writing though to recommend that you get in touch with a lovely (ex-English) woman in America called Dorcas Hendershott who keeps what is known as 'The RATHBONE register' as part of the Guild of One-Name Studies. She has an incredible database and knowledge of the British Rathbones and shares information and advice very generously. It is a few years since I corresponded with her, but do contact her and mention my name (John Taylor) as an intro. Her email is: [email protected] and the website she operates from is https://www.stanford.edu/~dorcas/Rathbone.html
Good luck. No doubt we'll talk again. Let me know how you get on.

Thank you John i have contacted Dorcas as you suggested , i have also ordered the marriage certificate i need so between us all i should progress speedily from now on. She is a fountain of knowledge!! Thanks again for taking the time to contact me. Do let me know if you find a link between the two families.

Best Regards x:):)
