Can anybody remember the name of the large pub that used to be in Highgate Road just opposite Stoney Lane close to Stratford Road? The no8 bus stopped outside and the drivers had to turn the key on the clock outside the pub. It became a chinese retaurant I think and have even seen it called the Brewers Arms but what was it called years ago?
Cheers

Hello Again Oldbarney

The pub you mean is The Brewers Arms, here it is in all it's glory what looks to be some time after they stopped using Bundy clocks but before it became an Eatery.

wheni worked for a guy from the dyno rod peter holte hom was a dirctor there he gave us our christmas party there that year
and he gave us a bottle of whisky and the biggest turkey you could ever buy each ; it was so large we had to chop off its legs and its wings to get it into our oven on christmas eve for christmas day dinner but beleive me there was some characters in ha pub foryearsmen and womem a like
and some carrying on,s and you could have a lock in there would you recall beverly hotel where you go down the steps to get in
you could pick up a fluesy and book in at any time of the night and of course just further along on the other side of the rd you had the angel pub ; another lot of characters you had in there ; cor blimey those were the daysphil ; best wishes for 2012 ;; astonian

Hi Phil,
Thanks yet again. My wife was so sure the pub had another name. She says she remembers getting the no8 bus at the top of Muntz street and asking for the fare to....." " - a name which was not the Brewers Arms. She went through all sorts of names like The Gate, The Vine, The Swan, pubs all of them and she was adamant that she asked the bus conductor (remember them) to be let off at "The !!!". She accepts the proof of the photo but now thinks the pub had another nickname or maybe she asked for "The Bundy" ? Ah well, it all proves just how fallible our memories are and how valuable sites like this and people like you are. Thanks yet again
