From Family Search I can see that Prudence Hillman, daughter of James & Penelope Hillman, was Baptised, St Martin's, 21 Aug 1809.
On the same date, Penelope Hillman, born 1803 was also baptised.
Baptised at St Martin's on 29 Sep 1800 was a Martha Hillman, same parents.
Again on FS, there is a Marriage, at St Martin's, James Hillman and Penelope Bough, 27 Nov 1797.
Looking at the parents, there is a Bap record for James Hillman, Chaddesley Corbett, 28 Jul 1776, and a Bap for Penelope Bough, Chaddesley Corbett, 5 Oct 1774, and Public Trees show these as the parents of Prudence. So far it all fits together quite nicely.
Perhaps too nicely.
If they were both from Chaddesley Corbett, then why did they not marry there?
There is a different possibility. FS shows a Bap for a James Hillman, St Phillips, 8 Mar 1762, son of Benjamin and Mary Hillman. Could this have been the James that married Penelope Bough? Admittedly, there is an age difference but..........he may even have been a widower.
Indeed, at roughly the same period, over in Dudley, there was a James Hillman, wife Mary, also producing offspring. Now, could this have been the James born Chaddesley Corbett?
Another possibility that just popped up whilst I was checking this posting is, St Martin's 14 Oct 1778, a Bap for a James Hillmott. Could this a be a transcription error. Willmott v Hillman?
Wrightson's Directory of 1815 shows a J Hillman, Tailor in Navigation Street, which may, or may not, be relevant.
Essentially, what I am after is,
The occupation of James Hillman as stated at the Baps of Martha/Prudence/Penelope.
Father's name/occ (if mentioned), abode, witnesses, etc, for the 1797 Marriage.
At some point the naming of the (seemingly) first born as Martha must be relevant in some way, but does not appear on either of the Chaddesley Corbett Baps.
All very confusing.
