John P Price B 1876 in Aston Birmingham
Helen Price B 1875 in Aston, Birmingham both to Clarissa Walton and John Mathew Price.
Would like to find out when they died, as I think they may have died young and unmarried.

Also born in Aston B'mingham

George Walton Price B1871 may have married no info on him.

Lastly, Arthur Duke Price B 1864. I think he did marry but went to Australia circa 1889-91. Does any bright spark know if there are lists of such people. I was also wondering when they stopped sending wrong doers to Australia as I can't see him having the money for the passage from such a relatively humble background! He was only a chemist's clerk in the 1881 census.

The family have been known to also spell their name Pryce in the early days.

Thanks, oh wise ones!

Re: Date of Death for Price siblings

Anya, seems like Helen went to Yorkshire with her sister Jessie.
1901 census
Helen Gertrude Price B1875 Birmingham – working at District South Yorkshire Asylum as an Attendant on the insane. The 1911 census has a Helen G Price listed at an institution in Yorkshire so she is probably still working there. (Don’t have credits to look at record.)
Jessie M Thomas (nee Price)B 1873 Bham 117 Junction Rd, Eccleshall, Yorkshire living with husband Ernest J Thomas B1870 Bham – Insurance Clerk and their child Maurice W Thomas B1900 Bham
also living with them as sister in law Clara E Pryce B1869 Bham and her children Arthur C H Pryce B1897 Sparkbrook, Doreen M Pryce B1900 Kings Heath. Clara is listed as married not a widow but don’t know if this is Arthur’s wife, most likely but can’t find a marriage at the moment.
Marriage for Jessie Marianne Price to Ernest Joshua Thomas 1899 Aston ref JAS 6d 676
1918 absent voter’s list Arthur Cedric Howes Pryce – regiment no, BZ73348, att 9 Off Cadet Bati RNVR
1920 electoral roll Clarissa Edith Pryce, Arthur Cedric Howes Pryce, Clarissa Pryce, James Small at 8 Springfield Rd, Moseley & Kings Heath Ward.

Re: Date of Death for Price siblings

Thnak you for this I knew I could rely on you! I really appreciate all you hard work on my behalf! Lots to follow up here. Any idea what Bati RNVR means? The only one I am mising now is Arthur Duke Pryce born 1864. He was the eldest son Of Clarissa Walton and John Mathew Price (Pryce). There is a rumour he went to Australia and that is why I was wondering if this was voluntary or sent for some mis-demeanor. (Don't know when they stopped doing this?) Does he appear on any census of marriage or death entry?.

Re: Date of Death for Price siblings

I thought it was Arthur S Price?

EDIT Ok I see! Arthur Duke on 1871 census and Arthur S on 1881, probably misread as a D?

Re: Date of Death for Price siblings

This Arthur Duke was born in 1864, so I think you are right its just a bad handwriting situation! He is the one who MAY have gone to Australia as in my grannies application to the Commercial Traveller's school were they ask about the parents circumstances it says oldest son in Australia aged 27.So I suppose the question is is there any further record of him in this country and do you know if there is an archive of those who left or were 'sent' to Australia?

Re: Date of Death for Price siblings

Sorry I don't have access to passenger lists. Some-one else may be able to help.:)

Re: Date of Death for Price siblings

Re: previous long post Clara E Price is Arthur Duke Pryce's younger sister, so not his wife.

Also not clear who the Clarissa is in 1920 does it say if this is a child or another adult? there was another yonger sister of Arthur called Clarissa but she was married to a Tom Ellison.

Is there no further entry for Arthue Duke Pryce after 1881 as this is too young to tally with the idea that he went to Australia at 27.

Re: Date of Death for Price siblings

Clara E Price Arthur's younger sister so not wife. So still missing is her husband and any record of Arthur after 1881. This year is still too young for him to have gone to Australia but if he doesnt appear in the 1891 census then I suppose he must have left in that decade.

I know you can't look it up personally but you seem very experienced in these matters, so do you know if such passenger lists exist and if so where one would look them up? Hope your own research is proving as fruitful as the work you have done for me!

Re: Date of Death for Price siblings

Ancestry has passenger lists but you would need a member who has access to their 'World Subscription'.:)

Re: Date of Death for Price siblings

The records on Ancestry are not complete. The only records on immigrants to Australia seem to be on ships to New south Wales ( Sydney) 1826-1922. There are 15 arthur prices. NO Arthur Duke Prices. From the lists the only ones at all likely are :
1908 Arthur Price - Arr. 19th Oct 1908 on "Moravian" 4rd class
1893 Arthur Price - Arr. 11th March 1893 "Oroya" 3rd class.
1913 Arthur Price - Arr 18th Jan 1913 on "Beltana" (with Lisel, Edith, thomas & Percival Price)
1920 Arthur Price Arr 22.4.1920 on "Demosthenes".
1885 Arthur Price (Bricklayer, 19years old) Arr 9 Dec. 1885 on "Florida"
there is also an Arthur Lake Price (aged 16) apprentice, on the crew of the Parramatta Arr. on 14 dec 1881.

Re: Date of Death for Price siblings

Thanks so much for writing all this info.

As I know he was around in the 1881 census and was born in 1864 the only possiblity would be the bricklayer....but I can't see that, as he is listed as a Chemist's clerk, so it looks as if his history will remain a mystery. The only thing I wondered is if somebody could check if there is any marriage listed for him. His middle name was Duke but on one of the censuses it appears mistakenly as Arthur S....also I think he spelt his name PrYce as it only seems to have changed to PrIce with an I for the younger members of the family...not sure why.
