My maiden name is Pilsbury and my grandfather came from Birmingham, my great grandfather, killed in WW1 is displayed on a plaque in Birmingham.:smile2:

WElcome Janice ,would you like to post your grandfather and great grandfathers christian names.

My Great Grandfathers initials look like F.H. on the Plaque. At the top of the plaque it says:

The Parish Church of St. Stephens - Selly Hill. I think my Grandads name is James Henry.

I would love to hear from anyone who knew of them or is related. Thanking you.

Frederick Harold Pilsbury
Certificate from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission says
service number 47250 North Staffs regiment died 14/5/1915
buried St Severs Cemetery Extension ,Rouen France.

Army record says
Enlisted at Wylde Green sutton coldfield, died of wounds 14/5/1918.

No ages given.
Found a Frederick Harrold in Stoke on trent but he was born 1874 I think a bit too old to fight in WW1.

The likeliest is
Frederick Pilsbury born 1884/1885 Chase Terrace/Shenstone.Wylde Green would not too far to enlist.

1901 Cranbrook,Shenstone,Staffs.
William Pilsbury age 48 b. Wombourne Blacksmith
Maria age 49 b. shenstone
Frederick age 16 farm labourer
Gertrude age 11
Elizabeth 9

In 1891 family living Chase Terrace Burntwood
says all children born Chase Terrace,

Cannot at the moment find marriage for Frederick or your grandfathers birth.

Thank you much so for all the information given.
I have found my Grandfathers Birth Certificate entry number 240 albeit threadbare and hard to read. Great Grandfathers name is James Henry the same as my Grandfathrs nme born 7th ~October 1879, address 44 Bronsgrove Street. Question is why have photogragh of the war memorial in my fathers posessions of what looks like F.J. As you probably tell I Have'nt a clue of where to go next

Once again thanks

Janice Ann

Oh, thanks so much for all the information. Reactions: excited, emotional, delighted, could I say trembling with delight. Now have to get to grips with this website to understand how the lnks work and learn abbreviations. My are exited with news and can't wait to see all the information I have got from you so far. Thank you very much.

Don't know if you noticed but on that 1901 Census you have James Hy, 21yrs old and also his younger brother, Fred Harold, 8yrs old, could this be the F.H you mentioned at the start of this thread. I have looked for his birth detail but sorry to say i cannot find it

bren

Thanks Bren for all your work. This must be the person in the photograph of names of War Memorial WW1 in Birmingham. Would you think I would find him in the War Records? How would I access these please?
