My wife's Gt gt Uncle was Charles Hayward Perman. He is shown in the 1881 census as a papier mache manufacturer employing 100 men. He was partner in the firm of Perman & Stamps. He died in Northampton in 1891 aged 58. Lived at 46 Edgbaston Road with his sister Maria. (d Salisbury 1915 aged 80) Has anyone any knowledge of this firm or family? What papier mache items did they manufacture? They were also 'japanners' which was a trade which went with the papier mache. I have any information that the archives had and also have been in touch with the Museum of Papier Mache which was a booming trade in Birmingham in the 19th Century but no-one seems to have any of their work.

Found them 1878 until 1895.
Perman & Stamps, Papier Mache Mfr. 45-46 St. Paul's Square also
Perman Charles Hayward same address.

Colin: Thank you for that information. It appears that the firm continued for a few years after Charles Hayward Perman died.
Maybe his sister Maria continued with it. Still not sure of exactly what they manufactured though. Regards, TCS.
