Re: Thomas Pearce (Peers)

Hi Gwynfor,,this looks like it could be one of them thar "sticky prob searches" so may i suggest to put as much
detail as possible of the Marriage Cert that is your "true" starting point.

The location of Bride (Birmingham girl ?) her father & occupation, Find them on 1881
Thomas Pearce/Peers must have been around B,ham,,courting (walking out,,ooh Charming eh!) with Elizabeth Doyle
prior to April 10th Marriage. Find him local to her on 1881?
Finding out more about Elizabeth,,,her family & even the Witnesses at the Wedding may improve your seaching information
for Thomas,s parents,, good luck
John

Re: Thomas Pearce (Peers)

Gwynfor, on the 1861 and 1871 census there is a George Peers/Harriatt Peers living in Bishop Ryder parish. There is a Thomas aged 17, Emily, Clara and Robert. It shows Thomas being born Birmingham. Are you sure that your Thomas was born Scotland, as I have a relative showing on one census was born in Ireland, where in fact in other censuses showing he was born Birmingham.

Gwynfor

On the Family Search site there is a baptism for a Thomas Pearce born 13 Nov 1858, Central District, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland. His parents are George Pearce and Elisabeth Duncan.

Re: Thomas Pearce (Peers)

Hi Carolina,
I am not 100% sure about him being born in Scotland but on the 1891 & 1901 census records it says he was born in Scotland, another member of the family lived in Scotland Street,Birmingham so it could have been a mistake, I have seen George & Harriatt on the census but I don't think Thomas's age was correct.

Suzanne

That looks promising I will have to investigate to see what I can find out.

Cheers Gwynfor

Hi again Gwynfor,, the ladies Carolina & Suzanne are doing great work aiding your search & "probabilities are showing,
Just a note of caution regarding Marriage Certs,,they,re not as "certain " as we would like them to be ?
Don,t take either age given as a fact,,Guys sometimes needed to put "older" rather than "of age",
Ladies ,,,never,,,lied about their age in them ol days,,same as now,,,(Lol)
The Vicar/Priest conducting the service usually wrote out the Marriage certificate as very few could write way back then,
Did Bride & Groom make an X ?,,,so the Vicar/Priest wrote down "phonetically" what they told him,, Accents permitting.
However ,,keep up the good work & results will soon arrive,
Cheers John,,

Just read your post Gwynfor,,you snuck in while i was procrastinating,,as usual,, Good stuff,,soon be sorted,,Cheers
