Had forgotten this die , which I collected 50 years ago from the jewellery quarter, though do not remember where. It is an interesting scene. Have contacted the secretary of the /present Brixham Bowls Club, who says he does not recognise the image, and their normal badge is a shield with a lion on it, but will ask around the members and see if anyone recognise the image. Have reversed image

interesting mike...i take it the image is of either sir walter raleigh or sir francis drake who we know played bowls as the spanish armada approached..did you buy it or find it mike

I found it 50 years ago and forgot about it till I was looking for something in my garage
 
On the bottom of the die, which I have only just seen, :rolleyes: is stamped Parry Bros & Hall, Hartford St. The address was 60 Harford St. This dates it to the mid 50s to early 60s , as they moved to Regebt row around 1963, and the firm was at that address named Albert & John Parry till the early 1950s.

I spoke to the Secretary of the"main" club, and I would have thought he would be aware of the other club's badge. I wonder if the badge was changed and he, being younger than me, was not aware.
 
The club secretary has acknowledged receipt of the photo, and has forwarded it to one of their older members. Apparently the club was formed by fishermen in 1813.
 
This refers to Brixham Bowling Club whose club is situated on the north side of the town at Fuzeham. The figure depicted is William of Orange who landed here, on 5th. November 1688.
I will maintain was his statement with reference to the Protestant religion. Usually it is rendered thus: Je Maintiendrai. His nickname was Dutch Billy.

Apparently the date of the founding of the club was mistyped and has just been corrected. It was founded in 1913.
 
Have received further information. Apparently the image was the original badge of the club, and it was replaced by the present at some time pre- 2013. He has sent me scans of pages from their centenary pamphlet in 2013 which shows the original badge. Apparently one older member thinks he has a badge (not sure if cloth or metal version) but is not sure where it is. They have expressed an interest in the die, and , as it is connected to them I have said that, when I have produced good photos, will donate it to them. Am planning visit to west of England early next year and can drop it off (careful not to drop on their feet as could do serious damage;)

The die was used by Parry& Hall to produce badges for members at their Harford St works. they moved in the early 60s and I came along a few years later to the derelict factory (I presume) and picked it up
 
The die is now with the bowling club. I thought I might be down that way and could drop it off, but did not happen, so sent it.
