Hello
just been reading around the site and came across your posting.
Did you know any BEARDSHAWs who lived in Paddington Street

My dad, Michael Terrington lived on Paddington Street in the early 1950's. Does anyone remember the Terringtons, Duffys or Smallwoods?

I knew Paddington Street very well from the 40s to the 60s and the name Terrington seems familiar to me; not the Michael bit though. There was a bom peck on the corner of Guildfrod Street and Paddington Street where I often played

my name ken morris i lived in paddington street in 1940s 1950s i rember the old peck bistons shop the coal yard

paddington steet

Hi all. ive just come accross this thread. most of my family have lived in paddington street from before the 1st world war until its demolistion in the 60s. i myself was born there in my nans house in 1953 and moved to villa st when i was five. family names are sanford. moseley and wood. mom an dad who lived at nans are george and beryl harrington. talking to them recently they said on one corner of paddington and guildford was an outdoor. on the other corner was a fish and chip shop which was bombed during ww2 with no survivors. i will ask them if they remember any of the names mentioned and report back. i am still searching for any photos of paddington st. the nearest i have come is one of the outdoor on the corner. i would be very glad if anyone out there can help with more pics.wales

The post by Wales, reminded me of a guy I met through work, who always said jokingly that he....." hated the Germans, 'cause they bombed our chip shop ", I believe the saying may have been used by a comedian at some time.
Could this have been the incident that started the saying, although by using Google it seems every city in the UK claimed to have had a chip shop bombed by the Germans

thanks colin b.i will look up the casulties records. should be interesting. mom was only 11 at the time of the raid there. but she remembers it very well. according to her i think the father of the family chip shop was found dead but unscathed still sitting in his chair. how sad. ta again for the info. wales.

Wales ,left hand side, home page.... do you want to search........click on by location of death..there is a problem with their site I am unable to post the page location as I would normally do, it comes back as a search fault, so have to do it this way.

Hi i'm new here

My Dad and family lived on paddington street untill they were knocking 'em down.

Maurice Fisher, son of Olive and Frederick was born 1930. Brothers Bob and Frank and sister Vera.

Frederick (grandad) and dad were both plumbers, as am i and my brother !!

My dad died 1993 aged 63 but all brothers and sister are well and still local.
Please speak up if you remember.

:)

I was born in Geach Street in 1926 and lived there until about 1943.
I had pals that lived in Paddington Street. One called Jackie Watkins and another called Bernard Wheeler. My grandmother lived in Guildford Street.
I went to Alma Street school (Junior) and from there to Aston Grammar and was evacuated to Ashby de la Zouch with the school on 1st September 1939 (and came back to Brum on 2nd September 1939). Jack Watkins also went to KEGSA.
Regards to all

Abit of the actual road is still there i think were the factory is where the lorry loading area is. My dads brother younger smashed into a lorry there and punctured a lung with his push bike handle bars !!!!

Many thanks Michael, I'll look to see where it is in relation to their other address's I have. Would you know which cemetery they would have used in the very late 1890's and early 1900's? Hope it's not asking too much! Mary Wheeler S Wales:rolleyes: Forgot to ask is it still there?

many thanks for the info michael. thats another piece of family history for me to relate to my children. as i think i said me and my brother were born in my nans house in paddington street. to think we played in the back garden totally oblivious to the history beneath our feet. how fasinating. this is truely a brillient site. wales.

I remember the Fishers, they lived next door to the Tennants opposite the shop.

I remember all three of those names from Paddington Street. I bought a guitar off someone in Paddngton Street who was probably from one of those families. I think paid £6
