Brummie On Exmoor
master brummie
My 5xGreat Grandfather, Oliver MOLESWORTH was born in Coughton, Warwickshire prob in early 1722, but I have found lots of info about him in Birmingham in his later years; he married 3 times, including once in St Philips and once in Aston Juxta. Most of his children were Christened at the New Meeting House in Moor Street. He was buried at St Martins in 1772. I have now found him on the Apprentice records on Ancestry, apprenticed to Mark DIXON, Bucklemaker, in January 1732, and registered as such on 12 February.
I am keen to find out if anything is known about Mark DIXON - where he worked for example. I think I have found a further example of him as an Apprentice Master in 1740, but nothing else has come up on Google.
I am also interested if anyone else has found employment information about Oliver, including any evidence that he went on to work as a Bucklemaker after serving his apprenticeship.
Any advice too about where I can go to find information about apprenticeships in Birmingham (including less formal arrangements), for the period c1700-1830, would be welcome, as I have a number of artisan ancestors living and working in Brum during this period, in a wide range of trades including pearl button making/pearl working, cabinet making and japanning.
Many thanks
Jane
