Old Moseley Arms

I knew The Old Mo well and I knew the gaffer that originally turned it from a dirty little back street pub into the best pub in the area. He was a good old friend of mine who has gone now Don Marlowe. He had to give the old Mo up when he had both his legs crushed between two cars one New Years Eve (I think it was) he worked for the rest of his life as personal manager for Smarts the meat people in Redditch and he was the Secretary of the Brunswick Club until he passed away.

thanks for that info brumgum never been in the moseley arms but it does look nice..

It certainly looks a lot better than I remember it. I Haven't been in there for a year or so and there's a lot that seems to have been done out since then. I wonder if they need to keep the "Old" now the New Moseley Arms has changed its name.

The only reason they changed the name of the New Moseley Arms was because nobody knew it as that. In fact I only discovered it was called that when I heard that they had changed the name to what everybody in Balsall Heath had always called it "The Clock".

I never really used that pub - used to go further afield and my mum worked there - and I got the impression that, apart from those who did use the place, people were evenly split on whether it was the New Mo or the Clock. As "The Clock" came from the big clock on the corner that didn't have any hands on it, I thought it odd that when they changed the name they fixed the clock.

You must be a lot younger than I, because in my day the clock was in full working order. I only used the pub occasionally but it wasn't one of the best around that area.
