I know many forum members discuss Midland Red, but this is something of an unusual angle on the company.
I’ve recently written a piece for a new Midland Red book, about their computer department at their Bearwood site, and later at their Midland House headquarters in Edgbaston. I’d now like to gather more details specifically covering the years when the Edgbaston computer department was run by the National Bus Company (NBC) – specifically NBC Computer Services Ltd (NBCCS).
So I’d like to make contact with anyone who worked in the computer department at Midland House, Vernon Road in Edgbaston in the 1970s and 1980s. They might have been known as working for “Midland Red” or “National Bus Company” or “NBC Computer Services” or “National Bus Company Computer Services”– or their abbreviations NBC or NBCCS.
I’d particularly like to contact Alan Hughes who was the Production Manager there during the early 1980s. He would probably be around 72 today, and back then he lived in Reddich and played for a local football team. This was a long time ago, so his career in subsequent years may have taken him further afield from Reddich, but there may be past work colleagues or family members still living in the area that might still be in touch with him.
Another possible contact would be Edna Gibbs (or Gibb) who worked there in computer operations. Also Stephen Baker.
Could anyone who might know Alan, Edna, Stephen or anyone else who might have worked at the Edgbaston computer department please PM me, so that we can document this area of Midland Red’s past.
