Nutting family, pre 1839

knowlegable brummie
Hi I've managed to trace quite a bit but am drawing a blank on the following. David Nutting borm 1839 in Leicester who married a Selina Cleaver (born 1841). I think they may have married 1863 ish. David had a brother John a year younger than him but I can't locate their parents. Anyone have any clues that would be great! I can't find anything of David after 1871 = in 1881 his wife and albut 1 of their children went to a workhouse in Sleaford. Any clue where I could look to find him? She is not listed as a widow when she went in to the workhouse.

David and Selina had children one of which was a David Nutting born 1866 who married an ada (I think her maiden name was Joyce as her mother went to live with them and her surname was joyce). I dont know when they married but ada was born in 1870 - I can't trace anything on ada's side.

there are a few people on ancestry who have the same tree and have researched the family.

they have david nutting as born in 1843 leic. and married selina cleaver in 1863 bham. siblings of david are thomas, john, james, elinor, elizabeth, phillip and john.
they have parents of the above as phillip nutting 1803-1849 and elizabeth kirk b. 1810. they also go back another couple of generations on some lines.

just to add that the marriage of david nutting to selina cleaver appears on familysearch.org as 26 jan 1863 at bishops ryder church, bham

thanks ever so much shera. I've got David Nutting down as 1839 but the other details seem correct. I know he had a brother John but not sure about the others - I will have to looka t them to establish it further. DO you know of any David Nutting on the electoral rolls after 1871 - i dont know if he moved the family to sleaford and then something happened there and selina and children moved to the workhouse or whether he abandoned them or something before that. Just wonder why they went to Sleaford workhouse and not a birmingham one? I know its definitely the right people because I can trace all the siblings after that event. I really appreciate your help. Thanks Natalie

If you obtain the marriage cert of David and Ada,then it should tell you her father's name.

there are no electoral rolls on line for the years you require, but in the kellys directory i can see these 2 entries for david nutting.
1873 - 106 staniforth street, bham. and in 1888 - 90 adderley street, bham both under shoemakers.
david nutting died in 1910 birmingham.

hi Shera I've just double checked the Davdi Nutting tree. The David Nutting they start out with (listed as Metting) isn't the right one I think. Our david nutting is 1838/9 as if you look at the 1871 census when hes married to Selina it puts his dob at 1839. Although the occupation for both as shoemaker is correct! So I'm not sure that my david nutting died in 1910 or not? How accurate are the census' on age - could they be the same? I looked at Kellys but couldnt find those entries you listed I could only find the later DAvid Nutting for Muntz Street who we know about or one for Barford Street which was 1868.

i would say this is definitely the correct david nutting and if you look on birth records, there isnt a david nutting born in 1839, but there is one born in 1843 leic.
when you said david nutting was listed as metting, that was a transcription error. if you look on the original it does say nutting.
i dont know why you cant find the david nutting in the kellys directories but they are under trades, either shoemaker or boot and shoemaker.
