I am looking for anything connected to Number One Portland Road Edgbaston.

I know a Physician lived there in 1911 and before that a goldsmith, but I also have heard it used to be a Nunnery and I am curious as to if there is any truth in the rumour.

It is the Rainbow Casino nowadays

Hi BIG Click;
I worked at the casino for 3 years 1965--67 it was run by the Morrall's
two brothers known as Uncle Harry and Uncle Charlie plus immediate family.My job
was Charlie's driver/doorman. The 2 brothers used to run the bird cage factory in
Vyse Street jewellry quarter with a gaming club underneath.
Back to the casino inside was the most amazing hand carved fireplace got to be
3 to 4 hundred years old. I suggest you go have look but!! dont take your wallet.

Hi BIG Click; Remembering the carving i would say so or even earlier brought in
from somewhere else looks like 1600 hundreds.

HI There
yes in the dark ages as i call it it was a nunery
and then they moved down to harborne park rd the big white stone building behind the high wall and bushes just as you take the bend coming out of the rd from what i think is calthorpe rd its the rd where the buses come down passing the botanicle gardens and swings left as you towards the pub and onto harbourne park rd
the actual place is a very hig tec security storage place better than fort knox
i have first hand infomation on that and the inside below ground of the vaults
there is alot of birminghams wealthy and well known to the public whom use it
also i do know of charlie personaly .and have done so many many years

hi big click
alot of the old birmingham records of lands and properties going back many many years are kept in the land registry at covenrty they are kept in vaults
especialy the pre history ones there wa only limited things at the libary
as i had to contact covenrty land registry along time ago for information on some certain property you can phone them up and asked what you want to know you have to pay for any documts you want and if you can arrange an appointment to visit and se for your self because they get it of the vaults on an arranged appointment with your selfs its not open for thepublic to walk in you have to make contact first
they will send you a application form asking for reference no .ie known address and po code i think its about seven pounds for the firstform when yousend it back
for admin charges if you can get the right person whom is helpful they will put you right theres a couple of ladies whom are very helpful and they will listen but theres one or two just want you to gt off the phone some for quickness say no we don,t keep that or tey only have it from a lateter date but i found out difference
because the first time i caught for of these call girls but thats where you want to do give them a ring best wishes astonian ;;

Cheers,
I suppose I need a readers pass etc?

Only if you are going to browse original documents, take photographic ID with you, you can get signed up in 5 mins.

I also disagree with Astonian that Birmingham Archives have limited documents relating to the past of Birmingham, it is a veritable treasure trove ;-)

hi dibbs
i thionk you are misreading as to what context i am saying the libarytold me them selfs that they only have a certain amount of info' on the land registry up
until a certain date and i just cannot remember the excact era they said to me
they have it up to a certaindate and any thinl beyond that date its is at coventry
i entirely agree its a treasure trove and as i have said in the context its limtrd dates
listed propertys was moved to coventry every think prior to a certain year its beenthat long now since i started researching some old property going back to the 1925 and before era as i said you are misreading what i have said so in the terms
of that what i mean have a nice day astonion
