Hi everyone

Trying to find information on family Norris who lived in Bordesley Green in the 1920's. Names we have are possibly, william edward, violet, ruby, richard, minnie.

Any information would be great.

Thank you

Lisa

Hi Lisa,

Hope my reply to your other post was helpful. I have looked at the Electoral Role for Churchill Road and this is what I have found.

214 Churchill Road

1925-1939 William Edward Norris.
1930 Minnie Norris.
1935-1939 Violet Norris.

Of course Edward and Violet may have lived there beyond that date but the online electoral role only goes as far as 1939 at the moment.

I checked the birth indexes for Richard Norris but there were quite a few, do you have a rough idea of when he was born?

Good luck in your search.
Macca.

Hi there

spent all day at the library yesterday, found out my grandmother spent at least first four months of my dads life with him at a home for unmarried mothers, after that dont know what happened, but he knows he lived with his uncle at 214 churchill road until the age of five.

have found a john norris, who we think is richards twin, we think they were born in about 1933, but only birth details we can find are for twins called richard william and robert john (we think he maybe chose to use his second name). but we have searched all the church records in that area and not found a christening. Thinking we may have to order their birth certificates and see if they are the right ones?

do you think there is any other way of finding out if they are who we are looking for?

this would then give their parents details............................

all very frustrating!!

thanks for help

Lisa

Don't get frustrated Lisa, there is an answer to everything, eventually.

The twins you found had mothers maiden name Peart.
There was another child Sylvia P Norris mothers name Peart birth registered Sept 1929 ref. 6d 738

William E Norris married Violet Peart,Birmingham ,3rd qtr July/Aug/Sept 1928 ref, 6d 594
If you get the certificate from Birmingham register office it will have Williams age and fathers name. With this information we can find his family and that will lead us to Ruby. Alberta.

hi again

have ordered marriage cert and birth cert for sylvia (the latter just for interest more than anything).

so excited, one of my sisters and myself are so intrigued by all this. obviously we are treading carefully with dad, he is fine with it all so far, he had a very stable and happy childhood in the orphanage really, and it was his choice to do this research, we have waited years for him to finally decide he wanted to find out. so glad he didnt wait til his deathbed and regret not doing it, as a friend of ours did.

thank you so very much for all your help, will let you know what find on certs when i receive.

Hi Lisa,

Do you know Ruby's year of birth and her middle names? If so you can check on www.findmypast.com the passenger lists for ships leaving the UK between 1890-1960 if you think she may have emigrated. You can also check for deaths registered between 1984 -2006 very quickly.

Macca.

Hi Lisa,
I've just found this early picture of Churchill Road, It might be how your Dad remembers it. Of course it is very different today.

We are hoping to trace Rubys birth etc soon, just waiting for a copy of her
brothers marriage certificate so we can trace his parents, then hopefully
her details.

Thank you so much for the picture,

I cant believe how kind and helpful you all are on this site, am so grateful.

Thank you.

Re: Norris family - getting there slowly

I now have a marriage certificate for William Edward Norris and Violet Peart, it was 1928 and William is 35. Married in Birmingham South. I need to find his birth certificate (states his fathers name as Richard - deceased).

Any help to save another long day at the library gratefully received as always.

Thanks to all for so much help so far.

Lisa
