According to the information with the photo, they were workers being transported from the old Dunlop factory in Rocky Lane Aston to the new one in Erdington.

What I can tell you is my great grandad worked there as a carter from the mid 1870's until he actually collapsed and died there in 1892 aged just 34 leaving a widow and 5 young children including my 6 month old grandad. This photo is like a lump of gold to me. I am so glad I found this website - and your photo!
