on the 1891 census (dont know if youve seen it) he is at high street kingswinford as a publican and glass dealer at "new inn". he has 2 daughters with him.

I think googling new inn high st kingswinford gets other pubs at brierly hill or wordsley. Hitchmoughs Black country pubs states that it has disappaered sometime after 1940. He doesn't have a picture. It also seems from this that william may have been the publican, but not the licensee, who was Henry Downes 1881-91 and John Bennett 1891-3, with bennett immediately following Downes. Its not uncommon for a licensee to hold several licensees and farm out the management.

im not sure if it is the said "new inn" on google but on the census it was wordsley kingswinford.

forgot to say also "the queens head" wordsley is listed as high st. wordsley and that pub is also on the census (previous page)

Yes shera, you are right. Further search in the CD gives William Arnold 1887-1892 licensee New inn, 117 high st, Wordsley Green.
