Hi there,

Im 100s of miles away from Birmingham and dont have knowledge of the place.
All i know is that my Gt Grandad died in the City Hospital in 1929 and was living at 6 Grove Terrace Lennox Street at the time of his death.

could someone please help me as to wheres the nearest church i could perhaps look at.

Also i note that someone has already asked the question about how to view burial records, and the answer been: visit to the library !
Is there no email addresses I can email such enquiries to when I live so far away ?

Any help is much appreciated

thanks

Val

Hi
Noticed your grandad lived at 6 Grove Terrace Lennox St, my nan aunt and uncle lived at 10Grove Terrace what was your grandads name.

St Matthias Church was the nearest on corner Farm St and Wheeler St, but was pulled down probably in 50's
I am sure I have seen photo's of it on this website.

Hi,

Well as far as know Fredericks wife had already died by 1929 and on his death certificate it states he was living with his daughter Alice (Grace) Olney as she is also noted on the death certificate with her new married name. I couldnt tell you who else was at the address im afraid.

Thanks

I think everythings been pulled down that im wanting to research by the sounds of it :)

If you could remember the website i wouldnt mind going for a look !

Thanks

its a fantastic website is the aston brooke one.

If a church has been demolished, does anyone know what happened to the cemeterys, were they moved or just built over? Im hoping moved rather than just ignored

Thanks

Hi Aston,

do you have the date of death ? If so then It means searching the various cemetary records ... in those days people had to be buried within seven days of death so that would help you find which cemetary. It may not necessarily be a church cemetary, It could have been Witton Cemetary. If you contact Birmingham Central Library (Local History and Heritage) .. they may be able to help you.

As Far as I can remember there was not a buriel site at St Mathias, most people from aston were buried at Witton cemetry, as are most of my family however there is St Georges which in Wheeler Street and there are some graves there.the staff at Witton cemetery are very helpful and they did trace my father in laws buriel grave you can email them if you have approx dates.

Thank you thats really useful. He died in 1929 and his wife died the year earlier.
I thought i would have to find out the cemetery before i asked for look ups.

thanks
