Nash, Luke John

master brummie
Luke John Nash born Birmingham c1886. Have searched for a birth for the above named (1880 - 1890) without success but have a Lucas Nash for 1887. Luke was KiA 14.11.1914 and his sole legatee shown on Army Register of Soldiers effects was his brother, George Lot (George Lot Nash?). Have found baptism for Lot George Nash 1884 (also Sarah Elizabeth Lot twin), parents William and Sarah Elizabeth Nash. 1891 census with Sarah E. Nash (married) aged 38, Albert William 12, Emma 9. George 6, Sarah 6 (the twins) and Lucas 4, all paupers. No father listed. Have searched for a Luke John Lot (1880 - 1890) again nothing. Could Lucas be Luke and Lot George be the brother George Lot named on Army Reg. of Soldiers effects? Have not found a marriage for William and Sarah Elizabeth (?) so far. No other records (1901 or 1911 census etc.) for Luke (or Lucas) found other than record for Railway men killed in the Great War . An address on baptism record 2ct. 2 house Mosely Road (1884). Any help would be much appreciated.

Seems likely.

Sarah's maiden name appears to be Riley/Ryley, can't see a marriage.

George Lot named one of his children William Luke.

In 1891 it looks like they were in the workhouse.

George and family are living on Summer Road in 1939. Twin sister Sarah appears not to marry, living on South Road in 1939.

And I can see both of them in 1911 but not the others, apart from a maybe for William Albert.

Thank you for the above details, will look them up. Have now found a John Nash on 1911 census serving with 4th Bn. Worcesters but not sure its Luke John (aged 22 would suggest 1889 birth not 1887).

The birth record which goes with the Lucas from the 1891 census is this one I think (available as a digital image for £3).

Emma, Sarah both births reg with mmn Riley (Ryley)
Didn't find George and Albert on GRO

Thank you Janice.
Sarah and George (Lot George) twins. I have not found (birth) for Albert William so far or a marriage for Sarah Elizabeth Riley/Ryley and William Nash. I find it strange that on the 1891 census Albert William aged 12 is shown as a baker by profession/ occupation, is this an error?
