NASH, Frank - born 1899

ARippin

master brummie
I would like to share information with any descendants of my Great Uncle.
He married Ellen Roberts on 5th April 1924 at St Culthbert's Church, Birmingham.
He lived at Halberton Terrace, Halberton Street, off Dudley Road and had two brothers, William Frederick and Thomas Henry.
He served in the Royal Army Medical Corps during WW1 and into the 1920's.

Hello ARippin,

Sorry I cannot help with your query but welcome to the Forum anyhow. Are you an Ex Brummie?

Old Boy

Hello and many thanks for your welcome.

As much as I would like to say I'm an ex Brummie (to get accepted!) I'm sadly not.
I'm from Melton Mowbray but my moms side of the family were from Leicester (or so I thought until relatively recently).
My Grandparents were both from Birmingham... or rather Smethwick.
They lived off Dudley Road, Winson Green area, so if I'm correct having read through some of the threads on this site, I don't believe it is strictly Birmingham.

Having grown up a townie I know my area pretty well, but not knowing the Birmingham area, to be honest it's a bit of a nightmare. I find myself having to keep checking maps etc.

I knew it would be a very long shot posting on this forum but as most of my relatives are long gone I have little choice.

The only link I have left to me are two lovely elderly relatives who live in Rutland who have a lovely Brummie accent.

There surname is Lester (good golfers I believe) and she was a Robinson.

Sadly they are not the names I'm trying to trace as I'm looking for Nash, Palmer, Flavell and Starkey roots.

Well thank you again and kindest regards.

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

No. It is not necessary to be an ex Brummie to partake in this Forum. Sorry if I gave that impression. Many of our members live far afield but have ancestors who came from this area.

Hi Andrew, my Mom and Dad had friends known as "Winnie & Joe". Winnie's maiden name was Starkey, I think they lived in Coplow St. Winson Green.
rosie.

(I have just remembered their surname was Harding.)

I'm just off out but will check my PC when I get home.
Not sure there's a link but not being familiar with the area (unfortunately) I have to keep looking at maps!
Many thanks for your reply.

Just quickly before I go out.
My great gran was Zeta Elizabeth Starkey but she married David Palmer.
Zeta died in 1943 and is buried at Uplands Cemetery, Smethwick.
Perhaps Joe was a brother of hers or one of their descendants.
Best wishes
Andrew

Hi again Rosie

just looked where Coplow Street is and it's very close to Dugdale and Halberton Street.

I can't find a Winnie or Winifred Starkey in my tree but I have made a note of it, along with Harding.

If however it crops up I will contact you again if you don't mind.

Many thanks for making contact, really appreciate it.

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

I don't mind at all. It would be interesting to find a link!! I still have a little card that Joe sent to Mom and Dad from abroad during WW2.
