My grandfather's marriage certicate shows his profession as 'muffleman', (if I'm reading it correctly) anyone know what job was this?
hi, thanks for the reply. He wasn't in Stoke but in Bham. This was around 1928. I know at one point he worked at Delta metals, so it's possible it is work linked to the furnace there.Could he have been in charge of a muffle furnace. These were high temperature furnaces where the substance heated was separate from the flame, Was he in the Stoke area, as they were much used in the porcelain industry

i worked on muffles at charles cliffords dog pool lane stirchley many years ago billets would be heated scoured in acid bath an then water bath ready for rolling in big rollers down to correct sizefrom this site http://doot.spub.co.uk/listing.php#order07
