Mr. and Mrs. Anonymous
Mr and Mrs Anonymous, you meet them everywhere
they stand behind their nets and curtains giving the world a glare
You see them in the library, peeping o’er the books
They watch your every movement with disapproving looks
They write letters to the papers with words so bold and stark
Castigating all and sundry while hiding in the dark
When they were kids you met them in the school, after classes they would tarry
Reporting the misdemeanours of every Tom and Dick and Harry
They meet and greet you , warm and friendly, “good to see you Jack”
But when the talking’s over and you walk away, then brother watch your back.
They come in every shade and hew, in many shapes and sizes
They could be sitting reading this, you can’t see through their disguises.
They have some things in common be they white or brown or black
But what marks them out from others is all the things they lack
They lack respect for free speech and for other points of view
Their views are all that matter, they lack a sense of humour too
I don’t like Mr and Mrs Anonymous, I can say that without fright
They can’t answer back, because, you see, they’d have to step out in the light
