Looks like the 'Joseph Lucas' factory, Great King st. The second picture shows 'Well st' which bordered the factory.Going through some old photos from a demo in Birmingham. Can’t remember the building . Can anyone recognise this?
It looks to me like the corner of Bridge St West and Well St marked with arrow on this 1950 aerial view. St Matthias's Church shows in the pic and on a corresponding old map. Well St in that location has become Great King St North and the houses on Well St opposite the Lucas factory have been replaced by a grassed area. The church has gone.Going through some old photos from a demo in Birmingham. Can’t remember the building . Can anyone recognise this?

The car in the second pic, looks like a Ford Escort Mk 3, these were prodced from 1980 - 1986.welcome to the forum custard...just when you think you have seen them all along comes some more brilliant photos...definately lucas gks...a factory close to my heart...the grassed area is still there...not sure as its a demo though..looks more like a bikers meet up...the police looked quite chilled out to me...although it could have been a peaceful demo... would have to have been taken in probably the late 70s after the demo of all the old houses...many thanks for sharing them with us its made my day

Yup. Was the old Lucas works and the rally became known as the anti helmet rally. It was realy a demonstration for the freedom of choice. My mom did this rally from the late 70s or early 80s. I remember her showing me a photo of loads of bikes and she was on the back of one. The rally started ( and still does I think ) from the amusements at the licky hills and used to finish at the old Lucas works. If I get chance I will see if there's any old photos about. It was 1990 Motorcycle action Group demonstration , it was peaceful but as you can see in this photo the same day some bikers were a bit rebellious by not wearing their helmets. No arrests but just stern looks from the police. Glad you enjoyed the photos. And thanks for all your help .
