Morris Thomas master jeweller

I am trying to find out more information on an ancestor Thomas Morris who was a master jeweller at 18 Hill Street, Birmingham in 1851. There is a news report that his wife died as a result of a domestic argument and there was a court case in which he was found innocent. He is then found working as a jeweller in 1858 in 42 Caroline Street, Birmingham and is still there in 1862. I would like to find out if he had an assay mark or made jewellery under someone else's assay. Where would I go now to find more information beyond the trade directories of the 1800s?
