Missing person

I have hit a dead end in researching a family member named Henry Edward Smith.

We have records until 1920 where he was lasted registered on the electoral roll, but no further details of him until his death in 1942 where he was listed as 'no fixed abode'.

It was suggested he may have been in prison, but with no real details about this I wouldn't know where or if I could start looking.

If anyone has any advice or require further details about him please just let me know, we are really desparate to solve this mystery. We are looking for relatives of Henry- he had a sister Clara and a brother Oliver Roland. His father was Jesse Smith and mother Francis Harriet Walton (we have info on the Waltons, but not the Smith's).

Any tips greatly appreciated.

i take it he never married? which entry in 1920 electoral roll is him please, to see which area he lived in. as im sure you have seen there are a few henry edward or edward henry smiths. there is one on his own in 1935 living 11 grosmont avenue, oldfield rd. balsall heath. well also at the address was a rose lucy whittingham.

Hi Shera

Yes Henry (DOB: 1878) did marry, he married Emma Martha Caroline Schulze in 1904.

He also worked for the family business at 60 Pershore Street and they had three children- Edward, Frederick and Marie. Emma did go back to Germany for a while with her son Frederick- but not the other children.

We have details of Emma living with her sons in Durham road, but for Henry there is no sign of him after 1920.

There is one record where Henry was listed as Edward, so he may have gone by his second name.

Thanks for looking
