In Birmingham Library there is a box of photos relating to Redhill School. One of them (undated) is a group of adults, possibly the school staff. There is another picture which looks like an enlargement of the group photo, showing the head of a woman. On the back it is annotated "The famous Miss Penny"

Does anyone know who Miss Penny was, and why she was "famous"?

Hi, dont know why she was "famous" but my late mother was taught by her and always spoke fondly of her.Maybe all her pupils felt the same and this was her fame ! where there any photos of pupils in that box ? have one of mums older brother, would like see if there was one of her class too.Margaret

There are a few class photos in the box, mostly undated, and a few of football teams in the 1920s.
Two particularly nice ones are, according to my notes:

"Boys and girls of the 3rd year, with an elephant and a camel" and "Girls with fans c1910"

When would your mother have been at the school? Miss Penny doesn't appear on a list of staff appointed between 1897 and 1912

Hi, my Nan was born in 1913 - I'm replying for my Mohter as she's having problems with her computer at the moment. She will have more details when she's back online. Karenanne

Back on line again ! As my daughter said, mom was born in 1913. Have photo of her brother in football team at Redhill. He was born 1909 and her sister born 1911 also went to the school.

Redhill school - but, sadly, I suspect it was taken before your mother's time at the school. Viv.
