MINCHIN JANE after the 1861 Census ?

skylark

Proud to be a Brummie !!
I am trying to trace JANE MINCHIN b 1850 in Birmingham. She is last sighted on the 1861 census living at Ct 22,House 2, Lawley Street Aston, aged 11 years, living with her parents George & Mary Ann Minchin along with her siblings..this is the last sighting of her...so did she die ( I have not found a death for her) perhaps she married before the 1871 census but a marriage eludes me...I would appreciate someone being kind enough to take the time to have a look-see for her...PLEASE !!! NOTE: She is not with her parents on the later censuses, I have all the info on them until 1900. Oh...I have only found a birth for SARAH JANE MINCHIN in 1850 but on the 1851/1861 she is named as JANE.

Thank you,
Margaret.

Re: Where oh where is JANE after the 1861 Census ?

Skylark, this might be a possibility

Marriage 1868 Aston Dec 1/4, 6d 331 Sarah Jane MinchAM to either Josiah Greenhill or Joseph Buckerfield.

I could not find a Mincham or Minchim birth

Lynne

EDIT..cant find them in the census though :(

Re: Where oh where is JANE after the 1861 Census ?

Re: Where oh where is JANE after the 1861 Census ?

Wowee !! Thank you Lynne, Leslam, & Louisa for finding her for me...very excited now, I will now get busy chasing them up further. Thank you all very much.

Margaret.

Re: Where oh where is JANE after the 1861 Census ?

Oh dear ! It appears that Jane/Sarah Jane Buckerfield died aged 26 in 1876...but at least I now know what became of her. Thanks again for your help.

Margaret.

Re: Where oh where is JANE after the 1861 Census ?

Oh no!
Before you definitely 'kill her off', I'd be tempted to get the marriage cert to check that you have the right marraige/family

I have found Joseph in 1881, at 35, 7 Ct 2 House, Long St, Aston, remarried to Elizabeth (though she is Eliza in a later census).
There are two more children: Joseph, aged 8 (b 1873), who is obviously from the first marriage and Amy, age 2 born 1879

The marriage to Eliza Davis is in Q3 1877 Aston 6d 485

Re: Where oh where is JANE after the 1861 Census ?

I certainly hope to get the marriage cert in the near future, as it is the only way to be 100% certain before I claim her as "my" Jane. I have now located all 3 of her children on the censuses up till 1911 & they are all married with their own families.

Regards,
Margaret.

Re: Where oh where is JANE after the 1861 Census ?

Having checked the 1861 census for Joseph Buckerfield he is living in Lawley Street with his parents, so the Minchins & Buckerfields were neighbours !! But I will still send for the marriage certificate to be really sure.

Re: Where oh where is JANE after the 1861 Census ?

26 was very young to die and because I love a puzzle, I thought that I would look at the birth/death dates for Buckerfield a bit more closely as I wondered if she had died in childbirth.

As you will no doubt have found, there are two Buckerfield families with children registerd in Aston around the right time. Here are the interesting births/deaths in the decade 1861 to 1871 that may belong to Joseph and (Sarah) Jane without making it to the next census

Caroline b Q3 1874, died Q1 1875
Thomas b Q1 1875, died Q2 1879

There was a birth in Q1 1876 (Henry), but he appears with the other couple (confusingly, Henry & Jane!) who are having children in prior to 1881.
So, if Sarah Jane's death was associated with childbirth, it wasn't a birth/death that was registered.

Unfortunately, although some Warwickshire parish records are now online, Aston isn't yet covered as far as I can see.

Re: Where oh where is JANE after the 1861 Census ?

I am still busy collecting info on this family...I now know that Sarah "Jane" & Joseph married at St James the less, Ashted, 19/10/1868 & 2 of their sons were baptised there in 1870. As she was so young I have also considered that she died following childbirth...but... one of her younger brothers died in 1878 aged 21 from meningitis so they were a somewhat unlucky family. It now appears that the father of Joseph also married twice.. !!!

Re: Where oh where is JANE after the 1861 Census ?

I received the marriage cert for this couple today & YIPPEE !!! It is my Sarah Jane Minchin who married Joseph Buckerfield. A huge thank you to for all your help in my quest.

Thanks again,
Margaret.
