Metropolitan Amalgamated Railway Carriage and Wagon Company Ltd., Saltley in 1917

(later known as Metropolitan-Cammell).

This Company, manufacturers of railway rolling stock in Saltley and later Washwood Heath, was during the latter part of the Great War an important manufacturer of tanks, producing over 1000 of the machines.

I have been loaned a picture of members of the workforce in front of one of their products, photographed in 1917. Its owner (whose grandfather appears in the group) would be interested to know if any forum members have any local knowledge of activities and life at the factory at that time.
