An MGM function in 1939 at the Crown & Cushion Perry Barr. Were these MGM staff ? Was there an MGM organisation based anywhere in Birmingham ? Or was this something to do with the Odeon cinema in Perry Barr such as a club ? Odeon PB opened in 1930. Viv

Didn't think so Mike. Thanks for that. Must have been a club, maybe a film club event ? Can't imagine that a group of MGM staff would come over from the US and hold an event at the C&C in Perry Barr. I suppose it could have been a film promotion maybe ? Although that seems a bit unlikely, it's not impossible of course. Viv.

Bjut this was later than 1939 Alan. In 1939 Warner Bros are not listed
WARNER BROTHERS OFFICES were there when I was about ten or eleven years old in 1951. The PARAMOUNT office was on Bennetts Hill. Both were just Distribution offices, although as a ten year old I was happy to be near some of my film star heroes.....or so I believed.

I worked for Warner Bros for a few months in 1957. The films were stored downstairs, outside in separate brick buildings because many of the older films were on nitrate cellulose stock and highly inflamable. Thursday morning was very busy with all of the Mon/Tues/Wed showings being returned for checking and re-packing to be sent out for the Thurs/Fri/Sat showings. Also older films had to be sent out for the one-night only Sunday shows. A lot of work and not a film star in sight.

I would have loved to have worked there, as even without any film stars, just to to say..."I work for Warner Brothers", would have been a bit of glamour to an otherwise pretty dull life. I worked for Barrows Stores in Corporation Street... ha-ha.
Much later, as an adult, I went on to work in the entertainment industry, and spent a year and a half in California, and visited offices in the Paramount Studios, so I was full filling my dream. Gerry
